 📚 READING BOOKS

We love reading stories and books everyday in Hepworth Class!

  • Storytime: Every day the whole class will enjoy storytime with their teacher.

  • Reading Squad: The children will have three reading practice sessions a week, where they will read a phonetically decodable text selected by the class teacher.

    • Read 1: Decoding — Focuses on applying phonic knowledge and sounding out words accurately.
    • Read 2: Prosody — Teaches children to read aloud with appropriate expression, stress, meaning, and intonation.
    • Read 3: Comprehension — Explores and discusses the meaning of the text to ensure understanding.

Your child will bring their book home on Friday to practise and develop their reading skills further with you at home.

  • Library Book: Every Thursday your child will select a library book of their choice to take home. These books are not matched to their reading level, and may not be fully readable by the child, but they are perfect for sharing and enjoying together.

🤸 PE Days

Our PE sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday.

Important reminders:

  • Your child needs to come to school in their PE kits on PE day (Black joggers or leggings, white t - shirt or polo shirt and trainers)

  • No earrings or jewellery to be worn on PE days.

  •

🏠 Homework Challenges

Homework helps the children practise what they have learnt at school:

  • Homework books are given out on Friday and need to be returned on Monday.

  • Each week, the children get a Homework Challenge(s) to complete. They should be able to complete this independently but might need a little bit of help and support.

✅ Things to Remember

  • Bring your bookbag to school every day.

  • Read your reading practice books at home everyday if possible.

  • Check the class blog every week to see what exciting things we have been doing!
