Van Gogh Class - Review of week beginning 22nd September
Date: 29th Sep 2025 @ 12:29pm
A huge welcome to all of the children and parent's in Van Gogh Class
The children have had a fantastic start to the school year and we are really pleased with how they are settling into their new class. Each week we will write a weekly blog to provide a brief overview of the teaching and learning so that you can encourage your child to talk about and consolidate their learning at home.
English
We have been reading the book 'The Lonely Beast' by Chris Judge. The children have been predicting what might happen in the story, taking part in drama sessions and sequencing the story. This week they have also made a friend for the lonely beast (using Giotto) and completed a factfile about their beast to say where they live, what they like to do, their favourite food etc.
Maths
We follow the White Rose maths scheme and our first topic is 'Place Value'. The children have been learning how to recognise tens and ones, use place value charts and partition numbers up to 100.
Science
This week we have been learning about 'The Human Life Cycle' and have been identifying the different stages (baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult). We have also been thinking about human growth and how we can measure and record it. The children then helped each other discuss and record their heights on our class height chart.
Curriculum
In Music this week the children were learning and practising how to 'keep the pulse'.
Our learning in Geography has been foussed on 'Where we live' - The children have been learning that Pentland School is in Savile Town, which is in Dewsbury, in the the county of West Yorkshire, in the country England, and is part of the continent, Europe. They have enjoyed learning about aerial photographs and exploring images of school and the local area on Google Earth.
In PE the children were taking part in team building activities and were reflecting on how well their team did and how they could improve.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to have a chat with Mrs Constantinou or Mrs De'Ath.
