We have had another fantastic week in Goldsworthy Class! The children have been working hard and enjoying lots of exciting learning opportunities. Here is a little look at what we have been learning this week.

📚 English

This week, we continued exploring our class text, King Lion by Emma Yarlett. The children looked closely at the illustrations and discussed how King Lion might be feeling. We used a 'Role on the Wall' activity to explore his character, thinking about what he looked like on the outside and how he might be feeling on the inside.

In our writing, we focused on using capital letters correctly, particularly for names, places, days of the week and the word 'I'. The children then used their own ideas and vocabulary from our character discussions to write descriptive sentences about King Lion, remembering to use our sentence checklist to help them write accurate sentences.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we continued our White Rose Maths Place Value topic.

The children practised counting forwards and backwards from different numbers, finding one more and one less, and comparing groups of objects by matching them. These activities helped the children develop their understanding of numbers and the relationships between them.

🔬 Science

In Science, we began our new topic, Animals, Including Humans, by learning about different parts of the human body.

The children enjoyed identifying and naming body parts and worked together to label a life-sized outline of a person.

💻 Computing

In Computing, the children were introduced to our laptops and learnt how to log in to Purple Mash using their own usernames and passwords.

We discussed the importance of looking after our laptops and keeping our personal information and passwords safe. The children also had the opportunity to explore Purple Mash and become familiar with navigating the website.

Your child can also access Purple Mash at home using their individual login details.

🎵 Music

We were delighted to welcome back Nellie from In Harmony, who will be delivering our music lessons this year.

The children enjoyed being reunited with Nellie, who taught them last year, and were excited to continue their musical learning with her.

💛 PSHE

In PSHE, we explored the importance of creating a safe, respectful and supportive classroom environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas.

Through a story and class discussion, the children considered how our words and actions can affect others. We worked together to establish some important rules for our PSHE lessons, including listening to and respecting other people's ideas, understanding that everyone is different and recognising that there are no silly questions.

🤸 PE

In PE, the children continued developing their teamwork and fundamental movement skills.

During our team-building activities, the children worked together to complete different challenges, reflecting on what their team did well and how they could improve their cooperation.

We also continued practising a range of fundamental movement skills to help develop the children's coordination, control and confidence.
