Week commencing 8th January

What a fabulous first week back in school we have had. The children enjoyed talking and writing about all of the exciting things that they have been doing over the holidays. On Tuesday we talked about New Years resolutions and why some people make them. The children all thought very hard about it and then chose a resolution for home and one for school. Lots of them told us that they were going to be helping out their grown ups at home more and keeping their bedrooms tidy!

On Wednesday morning something very exciting happened. When we went out for a walk in the school grounds we found a strange looking egg. We brought the egg inside the classroom to keep it warm and began to predict what might be inside the egg. We had lots of very exciting ideas and are hoping that the egg hatches soon so we can find out if we were right. We then wrote a newspaper report to explain to everybody what we had discovered. We looked at the key features of a newspaper report and ensured that we included these in our own writing.

In maths we have begun our topic on shapes. We began by looking at 2d shapes and recapping the shapes that we know, identifying the sides and the vertices in the shapes. We then moved on to looking at lines of symmetry in 2d shapes.

In music we learned about pitch and identified high and low pitches. We then used some instruments to explore different pitch. In computing we learned about algorithms and talked about the importance of following a sequence of instructions in the correct order. In science we began to look at the different uses for everyday materials, recognising that different objects are made from materials to best suit their needs. In PSHE we thought about the importance of getting on with others and also the importance of using manners and respect with other people.
