Vision, Values and Ethos

Our Vision:

'Working together to make a difference'

To instil a Love of Learning within a Respectful and Caring Community

Our Ethos:

We provide a happy, caring and stimulating learning environment, responsive to the needs and learning styles of every child.  The staff team value each child as an individual, recognising their own unique talents and abilities.

We have the highest educational standards and expectations for all the children in our care. We strive to ensure that every child achieves their personal best.  Pentland is a very active and vibrant school, offering a broad, balanced and creative curriculum.  Activities are carefully planned, with the aim of helping children to receive as wide a range of first hand experiences as possible to stimulate their interest and love of learning; one which we hope will stay with them through their life.

At Pentland a high emphasis is placed on helping children to develop the skills that will carry them through their educational journey and later into the world of work.  Our aim is to help children to grow into confident, talented and articulate young people, who have a good command of literacy and numeracy skills and are ready to contribute successfully to an ever-changing and increasingly technological world.

Pentland is a respectful and inclusive community. High expectations are in place to guide and develop positive behaviours. Children are helped to recognise their rights and responsibilities; to develop respect for themselves, for others in the school and beyond.  We celebrate diversity and teach children to recognise and respect people’s differences as well as their similarities.

The staff within school work hard to create a welcoming ethos, one which is built on trust and mutual respect. It is our whole-hearted belief that it is essential to work in full partnership with parents, carers and the wider community to ensure that each individual child feels part of school life and gains the most from their time here.

Helping every individual to develop their confidence,

achieve their personal best and celebrate their achievements

Our Values:

Respect Our school is made up of unique individuals; we accept and appreciate differences between us. We are kind and courteous and treat others as we would want to be treated ourselves.  We co-operate well together and will listen to the view point of others, even if it doesn’t match our own.
Responsibility We know how to care for ourselves and show compassion for others.  We work hard to make the world a better place for everyone by always trying our best and helping others to do the same. We take care both of people and things within our school. We work hard in school and take every opportunity to learn more and do our work to the highest standard.
Positivity We believe in ourselves and take pride in our achievements.  We are confident to approach new tasks and situations and face things enthusiastically. We persevere if things don’t go right immediately. We know that we are capable of achieving great things and have aspiration and ambition to be the best we can be.
Creativity We are curious and want to find out more. We come up with lots of questions and ideas to which we want to find out answers.  We are independent thinkers and show resourcefulness in approaching tasks, using our prior knowledge to help us try out new things.  We take time to reflect and review to make changes where necessary and improve our ideas.
Enjoyment We feel happy and secure in school.  We look forward to coming every day, as we have fun learning new things. We are helped to develop a love of learning, as our teaching is imaginative and sparks our interest.  Our individual strengths and talents are recognised and nurtured, which helps us make good progress and feel good about ourselves.  We develop strong friendships and build lots of happy memories of school.
Integrity We act with honesty and always try our hardest to do the right thing. We use our knowledge of what is right and wrong to help us make good decisions. We will admit to our mistakes and learn from them, so that we can be better next time. We know what is important to us and others and make sure we act accordingly.
