Week Commencing 8th and 15th January

Date: 22nd Jan 2024 @ 4:56pm

Back from our Christmas holidays, our children were eager to tell us what fun things they got up to! Some even told us what lovely fireworks they saw for New Years!

During these first two weeks back, we have been reading a new key focus text. This was We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

The following is a video of the story being read aloud by the author himself, Michael Rosen.

We had been busy engaging in fun and stimulating activities within provision. Some of these were tied to our key focus text.

These were some of the actvities:

  • Developing out cutting skills by cutting green spaghetti (imitating the long, wavy grass scene from our story)
  • Bear Mask Craft
  • Sensory exploration activities e.g., moulding with foam soap, tracing 2D shapes in shaving gel, and mark-making in coloured sand.
  • Creating shapes, using lolly sticks
  • Sorting counting teddies by colour
  • Threading string through 3D wooden fuits
  • Tracing numbers 1 and 2 with a cotton bud and bright paints.

Our children loved reading this book! Below is a picture of our story themed tuff tray. This activity helped our children in developing their communication and language skills. They enjoyed using the props to re-enact the story.

Maths

During the second week back, groups 1 and 2 have expanded their learning of sorting objects. During the session, we had sorted animals into two groups - 'big' and 'small'. You can help at home by encouraging them to sort their toys. This could be through the day to day activity of tidy up time.

New Starters

We have also been excited to welcome our new starters into Nursery. Our new starters will begin group time, once they have settled into their lovely new classroom. They will be in group 3.
