Week commencing 26th February

This week we have continued our learning about the Great Fire of London. We started the week by thinking about what we had already learned and used this information to help us to plan and then write a diary entry, thinking about the different things that we would have seen, heard or thought if we had been there during the fire. We then had a very exciting day on Wednesday where we made bread like Thomas Farriner did in his bakery in Pudding Lane. We then used bossy verbs to write out instructions for how we made the bread. We looked into how far the fire spread and thought about what it would have been like to rebuild the streets after the fire. We then became architects, designing our own houses on the streets of London, giving reasons why we made particular choices.

In maths we have moved onto the multiplication and division topic. We started the topic by recognising and making equal groups of objects. We then began to look at adding together equal groups of objects with a view to understanding multiplication as 'repeated addition'. We then introduced the multiplication symbol.

In computing we used a word processor to create a list of items we would need to build a rocket. We experimented with drawing pictures and writing words. We practised logging in, saving our work and ensuring that the computers were turned off safely. In music we explored different untuned instruments and thought about which instruments would best suit a particular song and mood. In art we looked at using paper to create different 3d models. In PE we have been continuing with our Gymnastics and Dance topics. In science we have continued with classifying animals before moving on to talk about worms. We thought about what we would like to find out about worms and then created a wormery.
