Week commencing 15th January

This week we have been introduced to a new book. The book is called 'The Egg' and is written by MP Robertson. We began the week by looking at the book and predicting what we think may happen. We then read the story up until the boy climbed onto the dragons back. We talked about the different language that the writer had used and then focused on the different word types that we had learned. The children were all given short sentences and had to use their own 'interesting word choices' to make the sentences more exciting. The children all then sequencing the story so far and used some of the fabulous language they had developed to write their own captions for each of the pictures. In the story the dragon flies off to 'Dragonland'. We thought really hard about what we thought Dragonland would look like and the children had a go at drawing their own ideas, using adjectives to describe what they thought it would look like. They used their knowledge on their senses to create a plan of Dragonland before using all of the skills they had developed throughout the week to create their very own setting description.

In maths we have been continuing our learning on 2d and 3d shapes, sorting different shapes and using them to make patterns. In Science we have continued our learning on different materials, thinking about which materials we can squash, bend, twist and stretch. In art we have been using our knowledge of primary and secondary colours to paint our own fabulous pictures of the dragon from our story. In history we were thinking about our own history and the different places that we have travelled to.
