Focus text- Dear Zoo
Communication and Language
We will be continuing our work on prepositions putting a toy in front, behind on top etc. During our small group session. Talking and listening to each other carefully. Learning zoo animal names
Focus and concentrate, retain information- recap at the end of each focus group activity- what have we learnt today and previously.
Personal and Social Education
Begin to help to find solutions to conflicts and rivalries. For example, accepting that not everyone can be Spider-Man in the game, and suggesting other ideas. ▪ With support begin to talk with others to resolve conflicts Express our feelings and interests
Executive function -encouraging the children to really focus their attention, think flexibly and beginning to retain information in their mind- about farm animals , zoo animals and maths activities that we are doing over the week.
We will be encouraged to express our feelings and interests
We are learning how to care for others and living things- talking about how to look after plants and the chicks.
Physical Development
Gross motor development- negotiating space both inside and outside. Using the steps and climbing wall using alternate feet. Using the parachute in the hall, take part in team games and following directions.
Fine Motor- encouraging the children to mark make and start to write letters from the name. Draw and paint pictures using a variety of mark making media.
Encouraging the children to take off and put on their own coats on.
Literacy- Focus Book “Dear Zoo” by Rod Campbell
Start to develop the 5 key concepts of print
Print has meaning
We read English from left to right, from top to bottom.
Name the different parts of the book. –Focus on title, book cover front & back
revisit/recap every day.
Monday – Talking about what animals we would like to get from the Zoo- we will also mark make and draw pictures of our favourite animals
Mathematics
We are going to be sort and match objects accordingly e.g. size / shape
Tall, taller, tallest, short, shorter, shortest, big, bigger, biggest, long, longer, longest,
Begins to recite numbers to 5 in the correct order. Using one-one principle, stable –order principle, and the cardinal principle
Understand position through words alone- the teddy is on the chair, under the table with no pointing

Talk about what they see, continuing to use a wider vocabulary – buds on trees
Seeing how the chicks have changed- so we will be watching very carefully over the week to see if we see them hatch!
Begin to understand the need to respect and care for the natural environment- flowers in Nursery
