Week beginning 15th January 2024

Date: 28th Jan 2024 @ 5:14pm

The children all came back in to school after the weekend very excited to see the sparkly, golden  egg. We checked on the egg but it had not hatched. We then recieved a very special letter from the dragon family. The letter told us that inside the egg there was a baby dragon and asked us if we could look after the dragon for them. They also asked us to write to them after their baby dragon had hatched to tell them. The children then thought of lots of different things that they needed to do to help to look after the baby dragon once it had hatched. Once the dragon hatched the children were all very excited to write a letter to the dragon family telling them all about the new dragon.

In maths our Year 2s have been using our knowledge on lines on symmetry to help us to complete drawings of 2d shapes. We then moved on to sorting 2d shapes in different ways. We then began to look at 3d shapes. We recapped on the shapes that we already knew and then learned the names of some new shapes. We identified how many faces, edges and vertices each shape had.

Our Year 1s have been estimating, comparing and ordering numbers to 20.

In computing we talked about the input and output in a series of instructions and used a virtual assistant to help us to create instructions, ensuring that they included an input and an output.

In science our Year 2s  recapped what we had learned last week about materials and began to think about what materials are useful for specific jobs and why. Our Year 2s were material detectives hunting for objects made of specific materials.

In PSHE we talked about what it means to be a good friend. We welcomed the new dragon into our class and made a card to try and make him happy. We voted for a name for our class twin dragons  and the winners were  'Ella ' and 'Blue Lighning'.

In History we began to look at the baby photos that the children have been bringing in throughout the week. The children used their photo to draw a picture of themself as a baby and then now. They talked about how they have changed from their baby photos.

In Art the children enjoyed colour mixing, with a link to their previous work on Kandinsky.
