Review of week week beginning 9th October
Date: 14th Oct 2023 @ 2:39pm
We have had another wonderful week in Oliver Jeffers Class.
English
On Monday we went on an Autumn walk around school. We used our senses and thought about what we could see, hear, smell and touch whilst on our walk. The children came up with some amazing ideas .We used our Autumn walk to inspire us to create some expanded noun phrases together such as crunchy, orange leaves and glistening, red berries. We worked with our partners to write down our ideas and create a shared class poem.
Later in the week we introduced our class to similes and produced another class poem together which we enjoyed performing.
Homework this week is to, if possible, go on an Autumn walk with your family and to collect some Autumn objects to bring back to school.
Maths
In Maths our Year 1s have been introduced to the Part whole model and have been using this method to help us to work out and write different addition sums.
Our Year 2s have been recapping their number bonds to 10 to help them to work out their fact families to 20.
History
This week we have launched our Black History Month celebration in order for our children to develop an understanding of Black history in general. Our focus this week was Ruby Bridges and we talked about her bravery and resilience from such an early age .
