Week commencing 9th October

This week we have begun to look at the change in the seasons. We have recapped on the different seasons and thought about Autumn and what is special about it. We went on an Autumn walk and used our senses to identify the different things that we could see, touch, smell and hear. We then used adjectives to describe these things. In small groups we used the things that we had discovered to create our very own Autumn poems. We spent time rehearsing our poems, thinking about what we need to do with our voices to ensure that we are performing. We are looking forward to sharing some of these poems in our Autumn assembly on Tuesday.

In maths we spent some time focussing on odd and even numbers and learning how to identify when a number is odd or even. We learnt that we only ever need to look at the ones digit to discover whether any number is odd or even. We then moved on to our new topic of 'Addition and Subtraction'. We began the topic by recapping on number bonds. Being secure in number bonds to 10 will continue to help us to solve a variety of problems throughout our maths journey. We then looked at different fact families (for example if we know that 6+4=10 then we also know that 4+6=10, 10-6=4, 10-4=6).

In Art we looked at the work of Bridget Riley, we talked about the different works of art that she had created and identified the different lines that she had used. We then used our own art skills to create a range of lines, using pencil, chalks and wool. In History we celebrated Black History month by recapping on some famous people that we have previously learnt about, such as Rosa Parks, Nelson, Mandela and Malala Yousafzai. We then learnt the story of Ruby Bridges.
