Nadia Shireen - Week Commencing 16th October - review

Date: 22nd Oct 2023 @ 8:24pm

Week commencing 16th October

We started our week by recapping what nouns and adjectives are. We looked at different lists of nouns and adjectives and tried to put them into pairs, thinking about which nouns worked well with which adjectives and why. We then read the poem 'What a Windy Day', picking out the nouns on each page of the book before thinking of different adjectives that we could add to the poem to make it more interesting. We then wrote our own version of the poem, ensuring that we had used a range of different nouns and adjectives.

In DT we focussed on fruits and vegetables and learned how to identify if something is a fruit or a vegetable. We then looked at a selection of foods and cut them up to help us to identify whether they were fruits or vegetables. We even tasted a selection of them, focussing on some of the fruits that the children mistook for vegetables (peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes).

In maths we continued our work on addition and subtraction. We started off the week by recapping our number bonds to 10. We have been practising working out number bonds systematically to ensure that we can remember them all. We then moved on to adding and subtracting ones from a given number, focussing on the fact that as it wasn't crossing over a ten then the digit in the tens collumn would not change. We then thought about how we could use our number bond facts to help us to add together 2 numbers that crossed over a ten.

In computing we practised our logging in skills. In Science we talked about the different things that we do to keep our bodies healthy, with a focus on exercise. In History we continued our work celebrating Black History month. This week we learned all about Marcus Rashford. We learned about his childhood and then talked about the wonderful things that he has done to make a difference!
