Julia Donaldson (Reception) WC: 25th September 2023

Date: 21st Sep 2023 @ 4:36pm

Week commencing: Monday 25th September 2023

We’re excited to share with you the engaging and fun-filled learning journey we have planned for the upcoming week.

Next week, we’ll explore the world of the author our class is named after, Julia Donaldson. This week we will use the internet to research more about her and we’ll get to know her better through her exciting stories. We’ll be reading a range of her books, including “Zog,” “Superworm,” and “Monkey Puzzle.”

These stories are filled with valuable lessons on friendships, perseverance, and bravery which tie in seamlessly with our Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) lessons, as we’ll discuss and reflect on the characters in these stories, learning important lessons along the way. We will also watch the animation of “The Snail and the Whale,” another beautiful creation by Julia Donaldson.

Maths: Matching, Sorting, Classifying, and Comparing: In mathematics, we’ll be focusing on the concepts of matching, sorting, classifying, and comparing objects Through hands-on activities, play and games. Our young mathematicians will be encouraged to explore patterns, shapes, and sizes, providing them with a strong foundation in early mathematical concepts. It’s going to be an exciting and interactive week of learning!

PE: Spatial Awareness and Multi-Skills: In PE we will be enhancing our spatial awareness and multi-skills. Through fun and engaging activities, we’ll develop our sense of space and learn how to navigate it effectively. Coordination and balance will be a key focus.

Art: Exploring Color Mixing - Red and Yellow

Our artists will have the chance to explore the world of colors and practise mixing the colours red and yellow! To tie in with our literary focus on “Zog,” we’ll mix red and yellow to paint a picture of this lovable orange dragon.
