Anthony Browne - Week commencing 2nd October

We have had such an exciting week in school this week.

In English we have been reading 'The Lonely Beast'. We enjoyed discovering what the Lonely Beast Likes to do.

The children had  a special visitor who made a mess in our shared area! The children were tasked with investigating the 'crime scene', looking for clues to discover what had happened. We had so much fun and the children discovered it was the 'Lonely Beast'.

 

We recieved an apology letter from the Lonely Beast in which, he said sorry for the mess and gave us a present of a new book to read! 

The children then planned and wrote a reply to the Lonely Beast in the form of a postcard.

In Maths we have been learning about greater than and less then using the correct symbols and comparing different amounts using the symbols.

In Design Technology we have designed and created our very own lonely beast friends (see gallery). 

In Science we have been labelling parts of the body and have begun to learn about our five senses. This week we focused on sight and hearing. We enjoyed working out what an object was based on a close up image and listen to sound clips, writing down what we thought the sound could be. It was an interesting experiement as we could only rely on one sense at a time.

For Geography we have been looking at our immediate surroundings. We thought about what a map was and started by making a map or our classroom. We then used different equipment to make 'messy maps'.

We then looked at a map of the school and followed it around the school looking for the different areas shown on the map, ticking of the areas we found and planning which route we would follow.

In Art we have been looking at different lines. We practised drawing the different lines then, used the different media of wool and chalk to further explore the lines we drew.
