Anthony Browne Class - Review of Week Beginning 20.11.23

Date: 24th Nov 2023 @ 11:45am

A big thank you to all the parents who attended parents evening both this week and the previous week. It was so nice to catch up and talk about your amazing children.

I would also like to thank all the amazing parents who were able to attend the Year 1 workshop on Wednesday 22nd November. It was great to see so many parents and we hoped it helped you to understand a little of what we do in school. The PowerPoint used will be attached to each class page and blog for you to read at your leisure.

A special thank you must go to Mrs Rushby who worked incredible hard and helped me through my first parent workshop.

Let's take a look at all the amazing things we have been learning in Anthony Browne Class this week.

English

This week the children have been learning the traditional tale 'Little Red Riding Hood'. We thought about what the term traditional tale means and had a quiz to identify other known traditional tales. We focused this week on a version of Little Red Riding Hood and thought about what the different characters might feel or say. The children had lots of fun acting out the story and pretending to be the different characters.

We learnt about different sentence types such as questions, statements, commands and exclamation sentences and used them in our writing. We thought about what the characters would say and discussed what type of sentence it was and whether it needed a full stop, question mark or an exclamation mark. We then learnt about speech bubbles and added in our characters speech.

Maths

This week in Maths we have continued to learn about addition and subtraction and how to use the part-part whole model and a number line to work out a simple subtraction number sentence.

RE

In RE we have shared our knowledge on the Five Pillars of Islam and discussed the meaning behind each of the Five Pillars.

PE

In PE we have been doing multi-skills and have continued to develop our ball control skills, practising throwing and catching and moving on to using our hands and feet to roll and move the ball. We developed our skills in working with a partner and how to pass the ball to our partner by both throwing and rolling.

Computing

We learnt a new word in computing this week - 'Algorithm'. We learnt that an algorithm means to give a set of precise instruction in a set order and how they are used in computing. The children then had a go at creating their own algorithms by adding new clothes to a paper doll. The children worked in pairs to write down their algorithms then gave them to a friend to follow.

Art

We have been learning how to make marks in art and used these skills to sketch some amazing observational drawings of different objects. We had lots of fun playing the 'hidden art' game where we had to place our pencil through a large square of card blocking our paper. We then had to try and draw an object without being able to see what we were drawing. It was a lot of fun and one to try at home!
