What you need to know
Children will take part in one Guided Reading lesson each week. However, reading books will be changed every two weeks. This allows us to explore the books in detail, to develop our comprehension skills. Each child has a reading diary which will be updated each week with reading challenges linked to their guided reading book. Please ensure you discuss the challenges with your children, as well as signing their reading diary.
Children will also take home a library book each week and a class reading book.
Please ensure that your child brings their book bag to school every day, as we encourage reading whenever possible.
During Autumn 1 Term, our PE days are Monday and Tuesday. On Monday we will be taking part in Bushcraft lessons, so pupils need to bring wellingtons and an outdoor coat with them. On Tuesday we will take part in Yoga. This will be on alternate weeks with the other year 2 class. Pupils need to wear their normal PE kit for this lesson. This includes: a white T shirt, navy or black jogging bottoms/shorts and a pair of pumps. It is also important that your child does not wear any jewellery during PE.
Each half term a 'Homework Challenge' sheet will be sent home. This will contain 6 or more challenges that link into the current topic we are studying. You can then select one challenge to complete per weekend. The majority of this work should be completed by the child, with support and guidance given from adults at home. Don't forget to bring your homework challenges back with you on Monday morning, so your work can be shared with everyone in our class!
Spellings will also be sent home on a weekly basis. These spellings will also be set as a challenge on spelling shed. Please practise reading and spelling these words at home as much as possible, in preparation for Spelling Quiz the following week.
