Year 2 - Roald Dahl 2018-2019
We are named after the famous author 'Roald Dahl' who wrote lots of fantastic books, including 'The BFG', ' Matilda' and 'The Fantastic Mr Fox'.
Our teachers are Miss Child and Mrs Rafiq. We also have Miss Nauman, a trainee teacher from Huddersfield University, working with us until February.
What You Need to Know
Reading Books :
Children will take part in one Guided Reading lesson each week. However, reading books will be changed every two weeks. Each week, your child's Reading Record will be updated with a new reading challenge to complete at home. Please ensure you discuss the challenges with your children, as well as signing their reading diary.
Children will also take home a library book each week, which they will choose from the school library area.
Our P.E. days for this half term are Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has their P.E. kit in school on this day. PE kit includes: a white T shirt, navy or black jogging bottoms/shorts and a pair of pumps. It is also important that your child does not wear any jewellery during PE.
Each half term a 'Homework Challenge' sheet will be sent home. This will contain 6 or more challenges that link into the current topic we are studying. You can then select one challenge to complete per weekend. The majority of this work should be completed by the child, with support and guidance given from adults at home. Don't forget to bring your homework challenges back with you on Monday morning, so your work can be shared with everyone in our class!
Spellings will also be sent home on a weekly basis. They will be sent home in each child's red Spelling Book. The list of spellings is also available on Spelling Shed (https://play.edshed.co/login). Please practise reading and spelling these words at home as much as possible, in preparation for Spelling Quiz the following week.
