Chinese New Year
Friday 16th February 2018
To celebrate the Chinese New Year and to help the children extend their knowledge about other cultures, the staff at Pentland planned an exciting activity morning on Friday 16th February. The children moved around different classes and they took part in lots of activities relating to China and the Chinese New Year. The children were able to explore different aspects of the Chinese culture and learnt how to make lanterns, fans, drums. and Chinese dragons. They got to practice writing in Chinese taking care forming the different Chinese characters. They also got to make masks which they used when they took part in a traditional Chinese dragon dance. The children found this to be an exciting experience and enjoyed dancing around with the Chinese dragon. The children learnt the story of how each year is named after a different animal and looked at videos of traditional dragon dancing. This year is the year of the dog.
