Chinese New Year
Saturday 28 th January 2017
To celebrate the Chinese New Year 2017 and to help the children extend their knowledge about other cultures, the staff at Pentland planned an exciting activity day on Friday 27th January. They moved around different classes, where they took part in lots of activities relating to China and the Chinese New Year. The children were able to explore different aspects of the Chinese culture and learnt how to make lanterns, fans, drums. and Chinese dragons. They got to practice writing in Chinese and took care forming the different Chinese characters. They also got to sample some Chinese food and flavours which they found to be an exciting experience. The children learnt the story of how each year is named after a different animal and looked at dragon dancing. In early years the children were able to re-enact the animal race and created their very own dragon dances.
