06/05/2019 The Gruffalo

Date: 6th May 2019 @ 1:10pm

Communication, Language and Literacy

This week we will be introducing the children to a new book, The Gruffalo. It is written by one of our class author's Julia Donaldson and is illustrated by Axel Scheffler. It tells the story of a mouse's walk through the woods and the clever tricks he uses to keep himself out of danger from the other animals he meets.

This week our focus is on halving and sharing objects  equally with our friends. We will also be practising the skill of counting in 2s/5s/10s.

Physical Development

Please make sure your child's PE kit is in school everyday.

The children will now be having their main PE session on Monday with our resident PE expert, Joe Peake.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will be focussing upon our diamond rule of 'sharing' and reading books around this theme.

Understanding the World

As a class we will be thinking about  the animals that might use the woods as their habitat.

Expressive Arts and Design

We will be encouraging the children to create their own representations of the Gruffalo using a variety of materials. Some children may choose to make some Gruffalo claws!!

How you can help at home...

* Ask your child to retell the story of the Gruffalo. What animals does he meet in the woods?

* Take part in some practical sharing  activities at home.
