An Artist in School

Year 1 Artist Visit- 23rd October 2014

On Thursday 23rd October, both Year 1 classes worked with the well known artist Julia Ogden. Class Warhol created prints of trees; Class Kandinsky created prints of grasses. All the children really enjoyed the artist visit.

Julia planned an interesting day of activities. We had the opportunity to look at her artwork and discuss it; this was insightful for the children who had never met an artist before! The children used a range of different mediums, including charcoal to sketch their observational drawings. They then used a range of everyday objects (e.g. feathers, bubble wrap) to create their textured prints using acrylic paint. They enjoyed the opportunity to work outdoors too. The children then learnt the process of printing the background and using the work they had created as a stencil.
