30 Hour Provision for Three and Four Year Olds
We are happy to announce we are able to now offer a number of 30 hours places. This will be a trial service until the end of the July term 2018, when decisions will be made as to whether to continue on a long term basis from September 2018.
All families with a 3 and 4 year old child will still be eligible for the universal offer of free early education of up to 15 hours a week term time. This runs as usual either between the core hours of 8.45am and 11.45am or 12 noon to 3pm.
However, new funding arrangements mean that some families may now be entitled to an additional 15 hours per week of childcare.
If you are interested and think you may be entitled, please follow the local authority guidance below, which explains how to check whether you are eligible for this extended childcare offer, which amounts to up to 30 hours a week term time or a total of 1140 hours taken throughout the year.
You can usually get 30 hours free childcare if you (and your partner, if you have one) are:
This earnings limit doesn’t apply if you’re self-employed and started your business less than 12 months ago.
You can get 30 hours free childcare at the same time as claiming Universal Credit, tax credits or childcare vouchers.
You may still be eligible if your partner is working, and you get Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disablement Allowance, Carer’s Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance.
What you have to do to apply
You can check what help you could get with childcare costs and an indication as to your eligibility for 30 hours free childcare via the GOV UK website www.gov.uk.
This site will give you more information and allow you to ‘Apply’ to see if you are eligible. Register and apply for a childcare service account. If eligible you will be issued with a code. Please then contact the school office to inform them that you have received your code and Mrs Valli will be happy to help you complete an application for a place for 30 hours provision.
Hours of Provision
At Pentland we will be offering the 30 hour provision during term time only, by extending the number of places available in morning and afternoon nursery sessions. There will also be 15 minutes lunchtime cover between 11.45am and 12 noon for the children eligible for 30 hours.
This means that parents may opt to access their 30 hours from 8.45am in the morning from Monday to Friday until 3pm during term time. If your child attends a different nursery or playgroup provision, for 15 hours per week, you can still opt to use your additional hours here at Pentland if you wish – please speak to the school office if this is the case, to discuss your needs.
There is also the option of sending your child to Breakfast Club, which runs from 8am to 9am, here on site. There is a daily charge of £1 for this session, which includes a healthy breakfast.
For those children accessing the 30 hour provision, a packed lunch can be purchased from school at a charge of £2.12 or parents may provide their own.
Families not eligible for 30 hour funding
If there are sufficient places remaining, after allocating places to those families eligible for funding, we will be happy for other families to purchase additional hours for their three and four year olds. There will be a charge of £4 per hour for these.
Registering an Interest
If you are interested in 30 hour provision, please would you register your interest at the school office, so that we can allocate places as soon as possible.
Whilst we have tried to make this information as clear as possible, we realise that you may have some questions or need to seek clarification on some points, so please do not hesitate to contact the school office for clarification.
